The second time we went, was more recently. We were helped at the ticket counter by Dianne. She was such a sweetheart! My husband and I were there with our autistic son. He hasn't been out of the house much, due to severe anxiety. This trip to the aquarium was kind of a big deal to him. Dianne's kindness helped put him at ease. She has a great sense of humor. We appreciated her very much. We had such a fun time at the aquarium. It was not very crowded, and this made for a better experience. We were able to feed so many sea creatures and were able to take our time. There was big tortoises walking around, which was so cool. It really was a perfect day.
We've been to this aquarium twice. The first time we went, it was over a holiday. School was out and it was crowded and really busy. We skipped a lot of things because there were just to many people. The kids still had a lot of fun and talked about it for days.
I would like to start by saying that this place is not all that meets the eye. They do not treat their animals with respect and most of their workers are very uneducated. The first time I came to this place I went into the Iguana room. I am a huge reptile person so I thought it would be cool to see how they do things. I was completely disappointed and actually quite mad. There is a room full of Iguanas ranging in size. They let people in from all ages (mostly children) which results in these poor animals getting stepped on and very hurt. If they are allowing these animals to be treated this poorly during business hours... then how are they being treated after hours? I will never give this place business again and I hope eventually people start realizing that what they are doing here, is not okay.
Dianne needs a raise!! :)
Even though I go all the time, I don't get bored. They're always changing and updating the exhibits. Sometimes this means one of my daughter's favorite animals won't be on display, but usually there's something new to see as well. Highly recommend.
We had a 4 yr old kid's birthday here. Staff was attentive. Private interactions with animals, goodie bags and admission to the aquarium. We really enjoyed the party. The place is really fun to visit. It is pricey but we got a membership and it cost less than admission because they are offering half off memberships.
I got a membership early in the year as this was super close to my house and I go almost every week. If you're buying a membership, make sure you get at least 25% off, because they're always running some discount or another. I recommend buying at least some tokens to feed the animals with, so it's not just the cost of the membership, but if you buy them in bulk you can get a pretty nice discount and then just bring one or two every time you go. You don't need the tokens to interact with the animals - just to feed them. (Although if you go into the aviary, the birds will essentially ignore you if you don't feed them.)
Neat concept. Only downside of the day: We felt ripped off by the mermaid face painting experience. We thought it would be a fancy design like she had on her face, which would be worth a token. No where was the price posted, but she told us it was 2 tokens each ($5!) and all it was was some glue on their cheek covered in glitter. Kids said it was itchy and picked it off pretty soon. Will definitely not do that again! Meeting her for free (with admission) was nice. Animal interaction was good- worth buying tokens to feed the birds. Staff was friendly even on a crazy busy day. Wish we could have gone on a weekday.
I have a wonderful time with my two-year-old visiting and talking about all the different animals. She doesn't always like to pet them, but she loves to see the different animals and has been learning a lot about them as a result. The staff are always very friendly and generous, and several of them know me and my daughter on sight. Dianne and Dustin are two of the staff members who are always friendly and fun to talk to. As a mom, it's nice to have adult conversation in between playing with my toddler.
